Approach

Progress is the conversion of the unknown into the operable.

Isostatic Platforms is a software and hardware development company. We exist to break Enigmas — problems that currently have no known solution — and to build the systems those problems require.

Philosophy

The isostatic principle

In materials science, isostatic pressure is force applied equally from every direction. Directional force deforms. Equal force densifies. The distinction is not poetic. It is the difference between a bent part and a finished one.

We apply the same idea to organizations. Software, hardware, and proprietary intelligence are not sequential departments handing work down a line. They are a single field of pressure around the problem. The system that emerges is denser than any one practice could produce alone.

This is slower than a product cycle. It is more expensive than a sprint. It is also the only way we know to finish work that does not yet have a method.

Hard problems

What we will and will not take

We are not a general contractor for software. If a competent team with existing tools can solve the problem, they should. Those engagements belong with firms built for delivery at scale.

We take work where the method itself is the unknown: systems that sit between disciplines, instruments that do not yet have a category, interfaces for operations that have never been externalized. The brief, if there is one, is usually incomplete. That is a condition of the work, not a failure of the client.

Time is treated as a material. We do not compress an Enigma into a quarter because a calendar asks us to. We do specify what will be known, and when, so that the work remains accountable even when the destination is not yet named.

Three layers

Software, hardware, and proprietary systems.

Software

The logic, control, and continuity of a system. Written to be correct under conditions that are not fully specified at the outset.

Hardware

The physical instrument — chassis, sensors, compute, the thing that occupies space. Designed with the same intolerance for leftover decisions as the code.

Proprietary systems

Internal instruments, including Kristoffer, that we use to reason about problems conventional tooling cannot hold. They are not sold. They are how the work is done.

The capabilities follow from the approach.

Software, hardware, Kristoffer, and interface design are listed separately. They are practiced together.
